Image Upscaler

Enhance low-resolution images to crisp, high-quality thumbnails with AI-powered 2x and 4x upscaling.

The Image Upscaler uses AI to increase the resolution of your images. Turn blurry screenshots, low-res phone photos, or small video frames into crisp, high-quality thumbnails.

How It Works

  1. Go to Utilities in the sidebar
  2. Click Image Upscaler
  3. Upload your low-resolution image
  4. Choose your scale: 2x or 4x
  5. Click Upscale Image

Scale options

  • 2x Upscale — doubles the resolution (e.g., 640x360 becomes 1280x720). Takes about 10-15 seconds. Good for slightly undersized images.
  • 4x Upscale — quadruples the resolution (e.g., 320x180 becomes 1280x720). Takes 20-30 seconds as it runs two passes. Best for very low-res source images.

When to Use It

  • Video frame captures — screenshots from videos are often low resolution
  • Phone photos — older phone photos or screenshots that aren't high enough quality
  • Web images — reference images from the web that are too small for a YouTube thumbnail
  • Cropped images — when you crop a small portion of a larger image, upscaling restores detail
  • Older content — refreshing thumbnails from older videos with better quality images

After Upscaling

Once your image is upscaled:

  1. Compare the original and upscaled versions side by side
  2. Download the upscaled image
  3. Open in Editor to continue editing with other tools
  4. Add to Collection to organize with your other thumbnails

Tips

  • Start with the highest quality source you can find — AI upscaling enhances detail but can't invent information that wasn't there
  • 2x is usually sufficient for most YouTube thumbnail needs. 4x is best for very small source images
  • For best results, combine upscaling with the Color Enhancer afterward to boost vibrancy
  • Each upscale uses 1 credit
