Editing Thumbnails with AI

Edit any thumbnail using natural language — describe what you want changed and the AI handles it. Plus, use inpainting to paint specific areas for precision edits.

The AI editor is the heart of ThumbnailCreator. Describe what you want changed in plain English, and the AI does the rest. For precision work, switch to inpainting mode and paint exactly which area to modify.

Natural Language Editing

The simplest way to edit — just type what you want:

  1. Open a thumbnail in the Editor
  2. In the AI tab, find the Edit with AI section
  3. Type your instructions in the text field
  4. Click Apply Edit

Example prompts

  • "Make the colors more vibrant and increase contrast"
  • "Add bold white text saying 'TOP 10' in the upper left"
  • "Remove the background clutter and replace with a solid dark blue"
  • "Move the person to the right side of the image"
  • "Add a subtle glow effect around the text"
  • "Make the background slightly blurry so the subject pops"

Tips for effective prompts

  • Be specific — "make brighter" is vague; "increase the brightness of the background by 30%" is better
  • Describe the end result — "the text should be large, yellow, and centered" works better than "fix the text"
  • One change at a time — complex multi-part edits work better as sequential single edits
  • Reference positions — "upper left", "bottom right", "center" help the AI place elements correctly

Inpainting (Paint to Edit)

For precision edits on specific areas:

  1. Click the brush icon next to Apply Edit
  2. A painting overlay appears on your thumbnail
  3. Paint over the area you want to change (it shows as a colored mask)
  4. Type what you want in that area — e.g., "replace with a blue sky" or "remove this object"
  5. Click Apply Edit

The AI only modifies the painted area, leaving everything else untouched. This is perfect for:

  • Removing unwanted objects
  • Fixing a specific facial expression
  • Changing the background behind a person
  • Correcting text in one area
  • Adding an object to a specific spot

Object Insertion

Insert new elements into your thumbnail:

  1. Use the editor's advanced tools
  2. Describe the object you want to add
  3. The AI places it naturally into the scene

Or use a secondary image upload to combine elements from two different images.

Undo and History

  • Click Undo to revert the last edit
  • Each edit is non-destructive — you can always go back
  • The editor maintains your edit history for the session

Tips

  • Save frequently-used edit instructions as prompt snippets for one-click access
  • Set up design rules so the AI automatically follows your brand guidelines
  • Combine edits: generate with AI, swap your face, then fine-tune with natural language editing
  • Use inpainting for surgical precision — it's much faster than regenerating the entire image
